Fanad Lighthouse
Fanad Lighthouse, located at Donegal's tip, is known for its beauty and wildlife. EPIC was hired to transform an old generator building into a nature hide on the northwest side of the site. Completed in summer 2023, the project was developed in collaboration with the management team.
It is definitely worth a visit for the Scenery alone, You need to make an effort to get here but it’s worth it, the views are stunning

Getting to grips with the space allocated, we designed the room where doors were sealed off, and walls and windows broken through, to allow for the transformation from a block brick building into a reflective warm space where people can dwell whilst watching nature outside.
Working with carpenters, we had the interior fitted out in treated hardwood to give the impression of a natural hide. Three large graphic panels displayed information on the life in the surrounding habitats accompanied by a touchscreen interactive providing imagery and sounds of the seasonal wildlife in the area.

Care was taken to use the existing colour palette and type suite throughout the new graphics, to keep consistency with the rest of the interpretation on site. Binoculars were sourced and securely tethered to the hut for general public use. To avoid slips in wet weather, a bespoke dolphin-shaped anti-slip material was laid end to end. Behind the entrance door, a small blackboard with simple graphic directions hangs. Three simple steps help to draw a whale. This playful interactive was for smaller children.
The location of Amharc is such that there is a full view of the bay of Lough Swilly. Once the window latch opens, an interpretive panel marks the points of interest on the headlands opposite. This is a prime spot for spotting sea birds, dolphins and basking sharks and has been a welcomed addition to this busy attraction.
